Djokovic Gets First Position in ATP Ranking 2023

The good news for fans of Novak Djokovic is he is now at the No. 1 position in the latest ATP rankings which are published weekly.

He got this place after his victory at the 10th Australian Open title of tennis. He beat Rafael Nadal for this crown on 29th January 2023.

2023 and Novak

2023 is proving a lucky year for him as he has won seven matches and has not lost any of them. The 21st-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic has secured his career’s 92nd ATP title in 2023.

Novak Djokovic’s injury

The game was not easy for this Serbian star as with his injury he is playing a game with a four-set victory over Great Britain’s Jack Britain.

His injury includes a left hamstring that he got in Adelaide at the beginning of January.

During the Australian, Open Djokovic stated ‘I’m going to keep going” though he was injured.

Djokovic’s second-round game is played against American player Mackenzie McDonald.

He praised his competitor by adding a statement of “a lot of potential” In his interview.

Novak’s words 

After winning he cherishes the victory with the words, “I am very glad that I managed to win this match but of course in four sets. Credit goes to Enzo for playing well, I think in the second set.”

He has also praised his competitor by saying, “I am trying to play and compete with a great player Dimitrov in a couple of days.” 

Djokovic and covid 19 issue

Djokovic has won the Australian Open a record nine times but he was not allowed to compete last year as he was deported from the country because of not being vaccinated against the covid-19.

About ATP

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is a system that decides ranks based on the merit-based system in men’s tennis.

The top player is decided on the criteria of “the player who is having the most ranking points since the previous 52 weeks on the ATP Tour.”

The ATP is a digital and computerized system for declaring these ranks since August 23, 1973.

In the system, an updated rankings list is released at the beginning of each week.

Novak and ATP ranking

He has secured the most weeks as world No. 1 with a record of total 374 weeks.

Roger Federer has the record of 237 weeks at No. 1 in the history of ATP that it was all consecutive weeks.

Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest world No. 1 ATP rank holder and Federer is the oldest No. 1 ATP rank holder.

Carlos Alcaraz is in the second position and Stefanos Tsitsipas is in third place current position. He is married to Jelena Ristic.

About Novak Djokovic

He was born on 22 May 1987 in Serbia and is a professional tennis player. Novak has secured a total of 93 singles titles on the ATP Tour and he has a joint record of 22 Grand Slam men’s singles and 10 Australian Open titles.

He has begun playing tennis at the age of four, after receiving a mini-racket from his parents and a soft foam ball which his father used to call “the most beloved toy in his life.”

He started his career in 2003. At the age of 16, he went to a tennis camp organized by the Teniski Klub Partizan.

He can speak Serbian, English, French, German, and Italian well.
